Treehouse Hollywood, currently under construction, is the first ground up, purpose built co-living building in the United States. With 24,500 square feet, 5 stories above ground and 2 subterranean levels of parking and common space, it provides residents not just a roof and bed, but a true community.
Unique to the building and integral to co-living is the high density of residents contained on an urban site with a minimal amount of parking. This was done by taking advantage of local codes that are beginning to recognize the importance of mass transit and alternative commuting options available in Los Angeles.
Inspired by tree houses, as intimate gathering spots for friends and protective nests for private dreaming, the building is a modern indoor-outdoor playground. The exterior circulation core, with walkways draped in vines, offers shade and privacy from neighboring buildings while linking private individual spaces with active communal areas, such as the library, dining hall, and lounge. A spectacular roof deck populated with trees, gardens, lounging areas and games, takes advantage of expansive views of downtown LA, iconic landmarks in Hollywood and the hills beyond.
