With a team from the Village Idiot on Melrose Avenue, Soler Architecture + Design was called upon to create a space for the Black Cat Tavern that would be reminiscent of an upscale London pub with a timeless feel and warm atmosphere. Tucked away in an existing commercial and historically significant building on Sunset Boulevard in Silverlake, the space during construction was stripped down to the structure and frame, but the exterior was preserved.
The artwork on the walls of this classically design restaurant and bar has been curated to complement the traditional interior, with many tongue-in-cheek references to the restaurant’s name and historic images of the gay rights’ demonstrations that took place at the site in the 1960s.
